Building the Future of Rotary Through Innovation

Helping clubs and organizations grow through flexibility, inclusion, and modern membership strategy.

Patrick Longano is one of the leading voices in Rotary innovation and modern membership growth. As the creator of the Companion Club concept and founder of the IMPACT model, Patrick has helped reshape how clubs around the world think about attraction, retention, flexibility, and service.

What started as a simple idea β€” creating more choices for people who want to serve β€” has grown into a global movement. Companion Clubs now account for a significant percentage of new club innovation across North America and continue spreading internationally as Rotary leaders search for new ways to grow while remaining true to Rotary’s mission.

β€œGive people choices when they join Rotary and options before they leave.” Patrick Longano

Known for blending innovation with practical execution, Patrick has been selected to present at four consecutive Rotary International Conventions β€” click a convention to watch:

In 2025, Patrick proposed the creation of the North American Club Creation Team β€” a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to help clubs and districts launch new club models and remove barriers to growth. Rotary International accepted the proposal, and Patrick was chosen to lead the initiative across all 10 Zones in North America.

Today, Patrick works directly with clubs, districts, and organizational leaders to help them rethink growth, engagement, retention, and community impact in a rapidly changing world. His message challenges organizations to stop trying to fit people into outdated systems and instead build systems that fit people’s lives.

Patrick lives in Lenoir, North Carolina with his wife Angela and their son Harrison. He is also the Co-owner of DACdb, one of Rotary’s leading membership and club management platforms.

The IMPACT of Innovation on Membership

Rotary International Convention β€” Houston, Texas

56 minutes

Patrick and the Impact Club team brought the companion club model to a convention audience for the first time. Club president-elect Katie Tosi opened by describing her own resignation from Rotary during the pandemic and her return through a club that let her serve without attending meetings. The session argued that clubs which widen who counts as a Rotarian stop needing to recruit.

Igniting Pathways for Member Growth & Retention

Rotary International Convention β€” Melbourne, Australia

64 minutes

A working session on what separates a companion club from a satellite club: it stays attached to its host club rather than breaking away at twenty members. Patrick and Katie Tosi walked through the model, the objections clubs raise about it, and the flexibility that brings back members who have already left.

Rotary for All: The IMPACT of Companion Clubs

Rotary International Convention β€” Singapore

42 minutes

Patrick traced the model from its first approval in June 2020 to more than 1,200 meetings with clubs worldwide, including companion clubs in the Netherlands and Great Britain. The session dealt with the obstacles clubs raise in practice β€” dues, meeting structure, and why a new group needs Rotary at all β€” and with converting members who can no longer attend rather than losing them.

Launch: The North American Club Creation Team

Rotary International Convention β€” Calgary, Canada

59 minutes

Patrick and the team launched the North American Club Creation Team, six years after the first companion club chartered. The session covered lessons from pairing struggling clubs with established ones, including nine members who were ready to leave and instead became a companion club of an existing Rotary club, and introduced the team supporting new club formation across the zones.
